For most usages, such as websites, LinkedIn, and applications, a background that doesn’t compete with your headshot is usually best. I’m always a fan of keeping it simple, not only in clothing and accessory choice, but also for the background. There is no need for a headshot to have patterned backgrounds or anything that distracts from the subject. You should always start with one of these options.
Using a colorful background for your headshot can differentiate your image from a sea of other images. They can also result in super fun images. Here are a few ways to purposefully incorporate a colorful background.
These images were not taken on a green screen or later changed in Photoshop. Using different gels on lights on a white, grey or black background, you can see the colors immediately during your session, since I always shoot tethered to a computer. We can mix and match colors and make them brighter or deeper. You don’t have to imagine how the colors will look – you’ll see exactly how they look!
We can also photograph you in a way that allows us to realistically extract your headshot and provide many different colors of backgrounds or even environmental backgrounds. The possibilities are truly limitless.
